While the larger iOS 17.2 update, which is expected to bring some new and interesting changes to iPhone users, is still in beta, we do have a new stable update. The new iOS 17.1.2 update has now been released for all supported iPhones including the new iPhone 15 series. A version of the update is also now out for all supported iPads. Here’s everything you need to know about the new software.

iOS 17.1.2 and iPadOS 17.1.2: What’s new?

The new update largely brings security fixes to the iPhones and iPads. These include some known vulnerabilities that have reportedly been exploited in previous versions of iOS and iPadOS.

For security reasons, Apple has not revealed what exact vulnerabilities the new security updates fix on these devices, but as per protocol, all users are encouraged to update their iPhones and iPads as soon as possible to make sure their devices are as safe as possible from attackers.

Which iPhones and iPads will get the update?

The new iOS 17.1.2 update is available for iPhone XS and later. Meanwhile, iPadOS 17.1.2 is available for the iPad Pro 12.9-inch 2nd generation and later, the iPad Pro 10.5-inch, the iPad Pro 11-inch 1st generation and later, the iPad Air 3rd generation and later, the iPad 6th generation and later, and finally the iPad mini 5th generation and later.

How to update your iPhone or iPad

For supported iPhones, navigate to Settings > General > Software update and wait for the phone to check for the new update. You can then proceed with on-screen instructions to download and install the same.

For supported iPad variants, the process is the same. Open the Settings app and navigate to Settings > General > Software Update. The tablet will automatically hunt for any new updates, and you can then follow on-screen instructions to download and install it.
