If you’re a chronic photo-dumper, you’re probably going to appreciate Instagram’s newest update. The Meta-owned platform recently announced its decision to allow users to add up to 20 photos on a single post. The new update will also essentially double the amount of slides on a regular post. Here’s everything you need to know:
Instagram expands carousel posts: What's there to know?
Instagram currently supports both video and photo formats for its smartphone app. However, based on an earlier update, users were only able to add up to 10 photos or videos to their carousel posts. So, if you’ve dreamed of showcasing up to 20 media slides of your pet or simply want to dump your favourite vacation shots, Instagram has now extended the functionality to ensure the fun never has to end.
According to the company, the idea of having more than 10 posts was to give users an ‘easier way to express themselves’ and share ‘more content with their friends’. It also mentions how it has rolled out the feature ‘just in time’ for all the end-of-summer posts.

To create an extended carousel, all you have to do is create a new post and add up to 20 items before hitting publish. While the process remains the same, it will now allow you to showcase your media collection using a single post. Whether it’s a collection of travel posts or a mood board you love, the new update will allow you to keep all your memories in one place.
When will the update be available for everyone?
Instagram has rolled out the update globally for both its Android and iOS smartphone users. If you don’t find the option when you try posting, make sure you check for the latest update for your app. Instagram, in other news, has also introduced various other features for its users. Apart from including the Meta AI chatbot, it also announced AI Studio, which will help larger accounts engage with their audience.
