Instagram announces new updates for DMs

Meta has announced new updates for Instagram DMs. It has added new features, like the ability to schedule and pin messages, translate messages, share music within DMs, and more. These new features are aimed at enhancing the messaging experience on the platform. Here’s everything you need to know.

Schedule and pin messages

Instagram now allows users to schedule and pin messages with a few simple steps. The ability to schedule was previously announced, but is now rolling out to many users globally. Scheduling messages will let users send ‘Happy Birthday’ messages on time. The ability to pin messages is also useful for those who want to pin a reel, meme, or a message sent by their friends.

To schedule messages, just hold down the send button and a timer should appear. Select date and time and tap ‘Send’. To pin something in DM, just hold it down for a second and select ‘Pin’ from the available options.

Message translation

Instagram now supports message translation in 99 languages, allowing users to easily communicate with friends worldwide. To translate any message in Instagram DMs, just tap and hold the message, and then hit ‘Translate’. This is a great feature for those who want to make more connections on the platform by communicating with people from different regions.

Share music in DMs

Instagram allows you to share music in your stories. However, you cannot send music in DMs. But that’s changing. Instagram users will now be able to share their favourite tracks in DMs, allowing you to flex your music tastes. To share music in DMs, just open the sticker tray, tap Music, and select the choice of your song from Instagram’s audio library. Once you select a song, you can preview it and send it.

QR codes for group chats

You no longer have to add others to your group chat, they can directly join by scanning a your group’s QR code. This feature is now rolling out on Instagram, and it lets you generate QR codes for your group chat. To generate a QR code, open a group chat, tap on the group name and select Invite link, then tap QR code. You can send this newly generated QR code to let others join your group chat.
