Instagram will soon let AI do the talking for you in DMs

Meta-owned social media platform Instagram is not exactly new to implementing AI across its platform for additional functionality. Last year, the app added the ability to use AI and generate backgrounds for Instagram stories. Now, Instagram’s next AI trick seems to be the ability to write out messages for you.

A new report suggests Instagram is working on introducing a new feature called “Write with AI.” The feature will possibly help Instagram users compose new messages with the help of AI.

X (previously Twitter) user Alessndro Paluzzi, a known Instagram tipster, recently showed how the feature will work on the Instagram app on smartphones. The same is shown in a screenshot recently shared by the user.

Similar to many AI writing assistant tools, the feature is expected to help users paraphrase their message in various tonalities to make more contextual sense. While this will be a great help to users who are still learning English, it remains to be seen if Instagram will be able to write a message from scratch based on previous messages in the chat.

As AI tools become more accessible, and on-device AI features become a bigger trend in 2024, we expect more brand tools as well as third-party apps to pick up AI-powered features, especially in writing and image generation.

It currently remains to be seen when this feature will go live for the stable versions of Instagram on Android an iOS. Currently, AI-writing seems to be a feature locked to early-access version of the app.
