Insta360 has announced a new action camera that is co-engineered with German camera maker, Leica. The Insta360 Ace Pro 2 succeeds the Ace Pro model from last year. The new model brings a similar design, but has many upgrades, including the support for 8K video recording.

Insta360 Ace Pro 2 specifications and features

The Insta360 Ace Pro 2 action camera has a 1/1.3-inch sensor that supports 8K video recording, a jump from the 4K recording support on the predecessor. Notably, Ace Pro 2 can record 8K videos at 30fps, but it can also shoot 4K 40fps HDR and 4K 120fps slow motion video.

The action camera can click 50MP photos, as opposed to Ace Pro’s 48MP photos. This time around, Insta360 has also added AI features to the camera. It comes with a PureVideo mode, which, with the help of a custom-tuned AI neural network, can reduce noise and improve video quality in low-light environments. 

Furthermore, the action camera also has other AI-powered features like Auto Edit and AI Highlights Assistant. It can also be controlled with voice or gesture, which is an interesting addition, however, we’ll have to wait and see how it works in reality.

It has a FlowState Stabilisation feature to stabilise footage and apply the 60-degree Horizon Lock. The action camera features a 2.5-inch touchscreen display that has 70 per cent more pixel density and 100 per cent increased durability. The panel is also said to be six per cent brighter than the predecessor.

As far as the battery is concerned, the action camera packs a 1,800mAh cell with Endurance mode for a long runtime. With the aforesaid mode, the camera can offer 50 per cent longer usage when shooting 4K 30FPS videos. Insta360 says that with 18 minutes of charge, the device can go up to 80 per cent. 

The Insta360 Ace Pro 2 ships with a removable lens guard and a new wind guard for limiting wind noise. As you’d expect, the action camera is waterproof at up to a depth of 12 metres, which means you can easily take it with you for swimming.

The Insta360 Ace Pro 2 is priced at $399.99 (about Rs 34,000) for the Standard bundle, which includes a mount, mic cap, wind guard, battery, and a Type-C cable. There’s also a Dual Battery bundle that comes with two batteries priced at $419.99 (roughly Rs 35,000).

Unfortunately, the price of the action camera in India remains unknown as of now. However, it may be available here soon. Until then, you can check out its alternative in the range, the GoPro Hero 13, which has similar features.
