HTC lives on with yet another smartphone

HTC U24 announced with Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip

Every time you think you will no longer see any more smartphones from HTC, the brand launches a new device. The latest in the series is an addition to the brand’s U-series. The new HTC U24 is a mid-range device that comes with some neat specifications. Here’s everything you need to know about the device.

HTC U24: What’s new?

The HTC U24 comes with a 6.7-inch FHD+ screen, which happens to be an OLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate. The phone has a rather simple design on the front with a centre-aligned punch-hole camera on the top of the screen.

The HTC U24 is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, a mid-range chip that brings 5G support and enough power for day-to-day tasks along with some casual gaming. This is coupled with 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. Note that the chipset has since been succeeded by the newer Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3.

Coming to the cameras, the phone gets a 50MP main rear camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS) along with an 8MP ultrawide camera. There’s also a third 50MP telephoto camera sensor, but it only comes with 2x zoom. Lastly, we have a 50MP front camera for selfies and video calls.

Interestingly the phone still features a 3.5mm audio jack, which means you will be able to use wired headphones/earphones with the HTC U24, and still be able to charge the phone. Other features here include a rather small 4,600mAh battery with support for 60W wired and 15W wireless charging, an in-display fingerprint scanner, IP67 rating, and NFC support.

HTC U24: Pricing and availability

The HTC U24 is only announced in Taiwan currently, and is priced at NTD 18,990 (about Rs 49,035) for the 256GB storage variant, while the higher-end 512GB storage variant is priced at NTD 20,990 (about Rs 54,200). The device is available in Space Blue and Twilight White colours.

Whether the phone will be available to purchase in India is a mystery, as not many HTC smartphones have launched in the country in the last decade. However, if the brand is planning a wider expansion, we might just get to see the device. Until then your only choices are to get the phone shipped to you from Taiwan (which isn’t a good idea) or to get a different phone powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, like the OnePlus Nord CE4 5G or the Vivo V30 5G.
