HP Omen Transcend 14 is the world’s lightest gaming laptop

HP’s new laptop at CES proves that gaming machines need not compromise portability

HP Omen Transcend 14 is the world’s lightest gaming laptop

The market for gaming laptops is huge, and the more you pay, the better specifications and features you get. However, there also exists a huge market for users who don’t want cutting edge specs, but a laptop they can easily carry around. Over the past couple of years, a lot of brands have targeted this space, but the new HP Omen Transcend 14 is the closest we have to a lightweight gaming laptop.

Announced at CES 2024, the HP Omen Transcend 14 is not the brand’s only laptop at the expo, but it does stand out among all the other Omen and Victus series machines. Here’s why.

HP Omen Transcend 14: What’s new?

One look at the HP Omen Transcend 14, and you’ll realise that it looks nothing like the usual gaming laptops you see everyday. Instead, this laptop resembles an Ultrabook that you can easily pick up with one hand and toss into your backpack.

It doesn’t just look light. The Omen Transcend 14 has a weight of just 1.637Kg. This is significantly thinner than most gaming laptops, and while it doesn’t quite compete with thin-and-light heavyweights (oh, the irony) like the LG Gram series, it still is a massive step for dedicated gaming machines. This makes more sense when you actually look at the specifications of the Omen Transcend 14.

HP Omen Transcend 14: Specifications

The HP Omen Transcend comes with 14-inch, IMAX certified OLED display panel with a 2.8K resolution. This may feel like overkill for a panel this size, but we’re sure is something creators will appreciate.

The laptop also comes with 120Hz refresh rate with VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) support, 500nits brightness and 100 per cent DCI-P3 colour coverage. On the other side of the frame is a HyperX-inspired RGB keyboard.

Powering this gaming laptop is either an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H or a Core Ultra 9 185H, depending on what you choose, which is paired with an Nvidia RTX 4050 or 4070 laptop GPU, respectively. There is also up to 32GB RAM and 2TB SSD storage.

Other specs include a 71WHr battery with 140W Type-C charging, and plenty of I/O ports including two USB-A ports, one USB-C port and a 3.5mm audio port. The laptop even supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.

HP Omen Transcend 14: Pricing and availability

The HP Omen Transcend 14 starts at USD 1,499.99 (about Rs 1,24,600) and will be available in two colours – Shadow Black and Ceramic White.

Like with most products announced at CES 2024, the HP Omen Transcend 14 is already available in the US, but Indian gamers may need to wait some more for a local launch.
