How to use your ring doorbell with Alexa

Ring doorbell is one of the most popular ways of adding a smart doorbell to your home. The smart doorbell from Ring can be installed almost anywhere and it adds a layer of security to your home. Ring doorbell works by connecting to your home Wi-Fi network and sends an alert to your phone via a dedicated app when motion is detected or someone presses the button on the doorbell.

In addition to acting as a doorbell and adding a layer of security to your home automation, all Ring doorbell models also support two-way talk functionality and they even work with Alexa. If you already have an Echo device then you can make Alexa communicate with your Ring doorbell. If you are wondering how to connect the two then here’s a handy guide.

Ring doorbell: How to connect to Alexa

Smart doorbell: How to set Ring chime notifications on Echo

Once you have connected your Ring doorbell to Alexa, the next step is to set up Ring chime notifications on your Echo devices. These alerts help you stay updated about the activity in front of your smart doorbell and get instant alerts via Alexa on your Echo device. Here’s how to receive chime alerts on Echo devices.

1.  Open the Alexa app and tap devices in the bottom right-hand corner.

2. Tap ‘All devices’ and click on your video doorbell model in the Alexa app.

3. Now, click on ‘Doorbell Press Announcements’ and tap ‘Enable to Use’ to turn on chime notifications for your Ring video doorbell.

Once you follow these steps, you will start receiving chime notifications from your Ring doorbell on your Echo devices. With this setup, you can get alerted when someone is at the door through Alexa on your Echo device and not worry about missing any activity at your door. After this process, when someone rings the smart doorbell, your Echo speaker will play a sound.

You can even ask “Alexa, show my front door” to get an instant view of your front door and use two-way talk between your doorbell and smart speaker to communicate instantly.
