Here’s how to use your Android device as a microphone

In the day and age of virtual schooling, work-from-home offices and online seminars, you’d probably have to be updated with the best league of gadgets to get your chores done. But gone are the days when complaining about not having enough resources was acceptable! Today, your smartphones can perform more than fundamental hacks that can be used for your day-to-day tasks. And since it is nearly impossible to get the best of everything on your table, there’s no harm in learning a few tips and tricks to get things started. Read on to find out how you can use your Android device as a microphone on your PC:

Step 1: Install WO mic on your smartphone

There are several apps available online that helps turn your phone into a mic. However, WO mic does the trick better than the others. Not only does it provide a manageable set-up, but it also works effortlessly with both Windows and Mac systems. While the app is free of charge for users, if you (like us!) prefer to use it without ads, go for the premium version that comes at a nominal fee.

Step 2: Download WO mic PC client & driver on your desktop

After downloading the app, head over to the WO Mic website to download the PC drivers; make sure to adjust your system’s security settings to open the file that you’ve downloaded.

Step 3: Connect your mic!

– After you’re through with the set-up formalities of your PC client and drivers, proceed to the downloaded app on your Android or iOS device. Within the Settings tab, click on ‘Transport’.

 - Go ahead with the option that says ‘Wi-Fi’, or alternatively, you may also use USB or BlueTooth as per your preference.

– Select the appropriate audio source depending on your usage, and you are ready to use your Android device as a mic!

– You may be prompted to tweak a couple of functions, including the control port of your choice, and media, among others but avoid changing any preset settings to make sure your microphone is good to record.

Lastly, once you go back to the main page, you will find an IP address on the home screen. You will be required to open the PC Client for WO Mic and paste the IP address to connect. Test it out by clicking on “Play in the speaker”, and to give it a try, speak into your Android device. Viola! That’s all there is to the process. There are several other ways of connecting your Android device as a microphone. However, the WO Mic app is the most efficient out of the lot.

Things to keep in mind:

If you plan to connect your smartphone using a USB cable, you will have to enable USB Debugging Mode, which you can find under Settings > About > Developer Options. In the case of Wi-Fi, make sure your desktop recognises the network that you use to connect your phone. Lastly, if you opt for the BlueTooth menu, make sure your phone and desktop have it enabled at all times.
