We all know that learning new languages is one most difficult skills to attain. The same stands true not just for vernacular languages, but even English, which happens to be the most universally spoken language otherwise. Luckily, Google has something to help out with just that. It will now help users to not just translate languages to English but also practice in real time via prompts on Google Search, on their smartphone.
How Google’s new interactive language tutor works
The new interactive speaking tool from Google helps users learn English in a question-and-answer format. Users are posed with questions and asked to respond verbally, using a word provided to them as a prompt.
What’s more, the tool also provides users with personalised feedback on their responses. This feedback includes just how understandable their responses were, as well as how relevant they are. Moreover, it also helps them identify missing or wrongly used words. The tool also allows users to view multiple sample answers to the same question, at different levels of language complexity.
But, that’s not all. Google Search also offers contextual translations. That is to say, if one comes across a word in a phrase that they don’t quite understand, they can simply tap on it, and the tool tells them its meaning within that particular context.
How to access Google’s interactive language tutor
Accessing Google’s new language tutor is easy. All one has to do is navigate to the tool, via a small window beneath Google Translate. Tapping on it activates lessons. Users can also head to the “Speak” section to track their progress, which shows parameters such as how frequently they practice, the number of words they’ve learned, as well as the number of classes they’ve attended.

Google’s new interactive language tutor is an extremely handy tool. Each tutorial lasts only between three and five minutes. Moreover, it is available to access on Android smartphones, meaning users can take lessons as and when their schedule allows them, no matter where they may be.
The feature is currently available in select countries including India, Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, and Mexico, and is expected to be gradually rolled out across the rest of the world soon.
