But sometimes, especially when you’ve just reset a smartphone or are setting up a new device, the update process can take some time to kick in. To speed up the process and get those essential updates quickly, Android lets you manually force the update process.
How to update all apps on Android
1. Open the Google Play Store app
2. Tap on your profile icon on the top right
3. Select ‘Manage apps and device’
4. Select ‘Update All’ to begin the update process
Note that this process can take some time on a freshly reset device or during first-time setup. We’d recommend leaving the device unattended and charging for about 30 minutes for the process to complete.

The process can sometimes fail completely, or perhaps only certain apps didn’t update. There can be several reasons for this, but assuming there are no issues with your internet connection, the likely cause is a dependency on another app or Android service holding up the process.
For example, the Google Play Store app or Play Services might need an update first.
How to update the Play Store
1. Open the Google Play Store app
2. Head to Settings and tap ‘About’
3. Tap ‘Play Store Version’
4. The Play Store app will begin updating automatically if it’s out of date
If an update was interrupted, you can simply tap on the app in the ‘Manage apps and devices’ page to update it, or restart the ‘update all apps’ process as outlined above.
