How to turn off Always On Display on iPhone

The Always On Display is a feature available on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 Pro models. The idea behind this feature is that instead of completely turning off your screen when idle, the wallpaper on your lock screen slowly darkens, keeping the date, widgets, time, and on-screen notifications illuminated.

However, if this feature bugs you during your bedtime at night or due to the extra battery that your iPhone consumes, you always have the choice to turn off Always On Display. Wondering how? Check out below.

Ways to temporarily disable Always On Display

Despite its name, the Always on Display feature occasionally shuts off. In order to conserve your battery usage, Apple has a list of instances that can turn off the AOD feature for a specified time.

For instance, if you keep the iPhone face down, the screen will turn off. If you put your mobile inside your pocket or bag or if your iPhone is connected to the CarPlay, the AOD feature will automatically turn off temporarily.

Steps to turn off Always On Display on your iPhone

While the Always on Display setting is on by default, you can turn it off from your iPhone Settings. Head over to Settings on your iPhone and tap the Display & Brightness menu. You will find a toggle of Always On Display. Turn off the toggle by tapping it on, and you are done!

If you wish to turn on your Always on Display again, simply toggle the AOD menu once again. If you wish to display your wallpaper or notifications, you can manage them by navigating the Show Wallpaper toggle and Show Notifications toggle respectively.
