Whether you’re an Android smartphone user or prefer iOS, you’re probably loyal to a music streaming app. But that doesn’t mean you don’t want to switch every now and then. Be it a better premium plan or simply the convenience of it all, there are several reasons to switch between apps available today.

Interestingly, Apple has now introduced a tool that will allow users to transfer their playlists from Apple Music to YouTube Music without a hassle. The feature was implemented to make sure users have no data loss while switching from their primary app.

Transferring playlists from Apple to YouTube: What's there to know?

Previously, only third-party apps allowed the transfer of playlists between two streaming platforms; however, the feature will now be available natively on Apple’s Data and Privacy page.

That said, there are a few pre-requisites that Apple will require for those looking to use the feature. Some of them include having an active subscription to Apple Music or iTunes Match, along with an active YouTube Music account.

The tool will strictly only transfer playlists, along with any collaborative playlists that a user owns. Apart from this, the user will not be able to move uploaded music files or playlists that are not collaboratively owned.

Apple will also not move any organisational folders, podcasts or audiobooks from the app. And lastly, the brand mentions how only the playlists available on the platform can be moved to YouTube Music.

To initiate this transfer, users will have to navigate to Apple’s Data and Privacy page and sign in with their Apple ID. Once this is done, you will be able to find an option to ‘transfer a copy of your data’, which will guide you through the process. A part of this process will also involve signing into your YouTube Music account.

During the transfer process, Apple will send multiple email notifications to the user’s addresses associated with their Apple ID. The company will also give you the option to stop this transfer or track its progress within the Data and Privacy page itself.

Once the transfer is complete, Apple will notify the user with a confirmation email and users will be able to find their playlists within the Library tab on their YouTube Music app.

It is crucial to note that any changes made after the transfer will not be reflected in the playlists and terminating the process may also result in an incomplete transfer. The feature is now available to iOS users and the brand, as of today, does not support transfer to any other apps, like Spotify.

That said, rumours do point at the company exploring them in the future, but it is hard to tell as to if or when they may be actioned upon.
