How to switch off and restart an iPhone

iPhones are some of the most powerful pieces of technology on the planet. This is why these smartphones are often very sought-after devices, despite their steep prices. However, whether an iPhone is your first smartphone, or you’re switching from an Android phone, there are a lot of things that may be completely new to you.

One of these aspects is how Apple deals with the power button, or as Apple calls it, the side button. On most Android phones, holding down on the power button would bring up the power menu, offering users a handy power off and sometimes even a restart button.

However, this is not the case on Apple iPhones, where holding down the side-button will only trigger Siri to open. No worries through. We will show you how you shut down and restart your iPhone.

How to switch off an iPhone

To switch off an iPhone, simply hold down the side button along with the volume up button. Note that you will have to hold down (long press) both buttons together, and a shorter press may only make the phone take a screenshot.

Once you long pressed both buttons you should see the power menu, including a slider to shut down the phone, another for emergency calls, and a cancel button on the bottom. Simply slide on the first slider and your phone should be switched off.

Alternatively, you can navigate to Settings > General and scroll all the way down till you find the Shut Down option. Tap on it and you can shut down the iPhone.

How to restart your iPhone

Unlike some Android phones, there is no way to directly restart an Apple iPhone. Instead, you must use the above steps to shut down your iPhone. Following this, you can hold just the power button to restart the phone.

Those were quick and easy steps to shut down and restart your iPhone. You can now easily power off your iPhone at night to save power, or at any other time when you wish to not be bothered by calls or notifications. However, note that this isn’t the only way to save battery, and here’s some other tips to save your iPhone battery life.
