How to screen-record on an iPad

While we take a lot of screenshots, screen-recording is one of the features on our smartphones and tablets that we don’t use so frequently. It is nevertheless a nifty feature that can come in handy when you need to share what is present on your screen to others, and a screenshot just doesn’t cut it.

Screen-recordings can particularly be useful when you want to get actions or instructions across in a video format. If you own an iPad and want to help someone understand something using video, here’s how to initiate the screen recording feature.

How to use screen-record feature on iPad

In iPadOS, the screen recording function is a built-in feature so you don’t need to download any dedicated app. In order to record your screen, users just need to first add the toggle to the iPadOS control panel.

1. Open Settings and scroll down to find the Screen Recording function.
2. Simply, tap on the “+” sign right beside it to make sure that you add it to the control panel.
3. This will put the screen recording function in the ‘Included Controls’ section that appears in the Control Center.
4. Now, move to the screen where you want to initiate a screen-recording. Swipe from the bottom to bring out the Control Centre.
5. Tap on the Screen Recording button which will look like a dot inside a circle.
6. You will see a 3-second countdown, after which the recording will start.
7. To stop recording, tap on the red status bar at the top of the screen and then tap ‘stop’.

How to screen-record on iPad with sound

You have to first add the Screen Recording function to the Control Center. Once done, it is fairly simple.

1. Swipe up from the bottom to access the Control Center.
2. Now, press and hold the screen recording button until the recording options appear.
3. Press the microphone button at the bottom middle part of your screen to enable sound recording.
4. Tap ‘Start Recording’ to begin recording the screen you want to.
5. It will now start capturing sound. To stop, simply, tap on the red status bar at the top of the screen and then tap stop.
