Never lose track of a place again

How to save a location on Google Maps

Google Maps has gradually become our go-to for finding places and navigating unfamiliar streets. Whether you’re venturing to a new city or seeking out your favourite local cafe again, Google Maps is your one-stop shop for navigation. It guides you with turn-by-turn navigation, real-time traffic updates, and a treasure trove of information about businesses, landmarks, and points of interest. Google Maps even helps us discover new restaurants, explore landmarks, and check real-time traffic conditions.

But with all this information at our fingertips, how do we ensure the important locations don’t get lost in the shuffle? Saving locations on Google Maps is the answer. In this guide, we’ll break down the simple steps on how to save locations on Google Maps, ensuring you never lose track of an important place again.

How to save locations on Google Maps

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to save locations on Google Maps, whether you’re using a desktop computer or a smartphone (Android or iPhone):

On Desktop:

1. Open Google Maps: Go to https://maps.google.com/ on your web browser.

2. Find your location: Search for the preferred business, place, or specific address you want to save using the search bar at the top.

3. Save the place: Click on the location marker to bring up the information card. You’ll see a “Save” button below the place details. Simply click on “Save” and choose a list to add it to. Google Maps offers default lists like “Favorites” or you can even create a new custom list.

On Mobile (Android and iPhone):

1. Open the Google Maps app: Locate and launch the Google Maps app on your smartphone.

2. Find your location: Search for the place name or address you want to save in the search bar at the top.

3. Save the place: Once you have your desired location on the screen, tap on the place name or address at the bottom. This will bring up an information card.

4. Choose a list: Tap the “Save” button and select a list to add the location to. Similar to the desktop version, you can pick from existing lists or create a new one. On a few Android devices, you might see a star icon instead of “Save.” Tap the star icon to save the place.

How to access your saved places

There are two ways to access your saved locations on Google Maps, depending on whether you’re using a desktop computer or a mobile device. On your desktop, simply click the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) in the top left corner. Then, navigate to “Your places” and select the list that contains the saved location you’re looking for. For smartphone users, finding saved locations is even easier. Just tap the “Saved” icon at the bottom of the screen. This will display a list of all your saved places, conveniently organised by the lists you created.

You can use this feature to not only save your frequent locations but also to mark where you have parked your car in a public place. Quite useful, isn’t it?
