When you buy a new Android phone or tablet, the initial setup requires you to enter a Google account. If you bypass it, you can still reach the home screen of your device, but you will not be able to access the Play Store to download and install apps. Therefore, it is advisable to enter Google account login credentials during the initial setup to access the Google apps and services.

Typically, a user may have multiple Google accounts for different purposes, such as personal use, work, and so on. There is no set limit on the number of Google accounts that can be added to an Android phone or tablet. Adding too many Google accounts to a single device can become difficult to manage and navigate. It can create confusion when switching between accounts for different apps and services.
Steps to add or remove Google accounts on an Android device
When you set up a new Android phone or tablet, it will prompt you to enter your Google account login credentials. Once the setup is complete, it will prompt you whether you want to add another Google account. Here, you can add one more account to your device. In case you realise a bit later that you want to remove your Google account from your phone, or add another Google account, you can still do so by carrying out the following steps:
1. Go to “Settings,” scroll down, and tap on “Accounts,” “Passwords & Accounts,” “Accounts & Backup,” or something similar.
2. Tap on “Add account” or the “+” sign to add an account.
3. You will now see a list of account types; among them, navigate to “Google” and tap on it.
4. If your phone has a fingerprint scanner or pattern unlock enabled, it will prompt you to authenticate yourself before going ahead.
5. If you have an existing account, you can enter your email or phone number, followed by the password for the Google account. If you want to create a new account, you can tap on “Create Account” and follow the on-screen instructions to create a Google account.
Once you add a Google account, it will sync data across various Google apps and services, including Gmail, Contacts, Calendar, and more. To remove a Google account from an Android phone or tablet, follow these steps:
1. Open “Settings” and navigate to “Accounts,” “Passwords & Accounts,” “Accounts & Backup,” or something similar, and tap on it.
2. Tap on the specific Google account and then tap on the “Remove Account” button.
3. It will show a warning message asking you to confirm whether you are sure about removing the account. To confirm, tap “Remove account” or something similar.
If you wish to remove multiple Google accounts from the device, you can perform the same steps. However, it should be noted that the above steps may vary slightly depending on your phone model and Android version.
Readers should be aware that the “Remove account” option will only remove it from the device and not delete the Google account itself. It is advisable to conduct a data backup to ensure that you do not lose important data like contacts, calendars, etc. Be mindful if you’re removing your primary Google account. This might affect various functionalities on your Android phone.

As can be seen above, the process to adding or remove a Google account from your Android phone or even Android tablet is quite straightforward. Whether you’re integrating a new account for work or streamlining your device setup, the steps involved are user-friendly.
Always remember that removing an account simply disconnects it from your device – the Google account itself remains active. Before making significant changes, be mindful of potential data loss; consider backing up important information like contacts, calendars, or app data associated with the account you intend to remove.
