How to record Google Meet calls on your phone

With organisations offering hybrid work options, video calls have replaced board meetings. It has its convenience and fair share of problems as well. With so many meetings going on, you are bound to either miss some or may need to record them for future reference. So, knowing how to record a meeting correctly that captures both the audio and the video is pertinent. Let’s learn how you can do this on one of the most preferred apps to conduct online meetings on your phone, i.e., Google Meet.

Few essentials to recording Google Meet

You need to fulfil an essential requirement, and the top has the right Google Workspace edition. For instance, a few that support recording are Essential, Business Standard, Business Stater, Business Plus, etc. So check online whether your edition allows for Google Meet recording or not.

That’s out of the way; you still need permission from the Google Workspace administrator of your organisation. They need to allow meeting recording.

Who can record a Google Meet?

You can record a meeting, if:

  • You’re the meeting host. 
  • You’re from outside the host’s organisation and promoted to a co-host. 
  • You’re from the host’s organisation, and Host Management is off. 
  • You’re a teacher or co-teacher for meetings created through Google Classroom. 
How to record Google Meet calls on your phone

Steps to record a Google Meet

  • First, you need to start or join a Google Meet session.  
  • At the bottom right side, you will find the activities icon, composed of a triangle on top of a square and a Circle. Click on it.  
  • Then click on Recording. Then start recording.  
  • In the window that opens, click on Start.  
  • If your network isn’t fast enough, it might take a few seconds to respond. Be patient.  
  • And you are done. You can stop recording from the same Activities icon.  
  • The recording will stop on its own once the meeting ends.  

The recording is mostly saved to the meeting organiser’s My Drive.
