How to protect your WhatsApp chats with a fingerprint lock

We’ve been relying on WhatsApp for a while now, and the platform constantly keeps updating to give us access to multiple new features. In fact, the meta-owned instant messaging site has given us several ways to personalise or customise the app for our routine use. Whether it is the channels that we follow today or even that we can send our contacts money, there’s a lot on the app that is at stake if our smartphones or other devices ever fall into the wrong hands.

While there is an option of having a PIN, pattern or fingerprint lock on your device, there’s no harm in implementing an additional layer to reinforce privacy. If you didn’t know yet, you can have a fingerprint lock on WhatsApp, and here’s how you can do it.

How to implement a fingerprint lock on WhatsApp

Whether you’re using WhatsApp on your smartphone, laptop or tablet, there is a straightforward way to enable a fingerprint lock on the app. Apart from ensuring additional privacy, it also serves as a lock if you have children handling your phone or have sensitive information on your chat. We’ve listed out some steps you can follow to ensure your WhatsApp stays protected.

Step 1: Open WhatsApp Messenger on your device
Step 2: On your top-right corner, you will find a three-dot drop-down menu; click on it
Step 3: Select Settings and tap on Privacy
Step 4: Once you’re in the window, you can scroll to find the fingerprint lock option at the bottom of the page

Step 5: This option will take you to another window, where you can find a toggle button that lets you enable your fingerprint lock
Step 6: Once you have it switched on, you can choose between the time interval you prefer for the app to lock

Once all these settings are enabled, your WhatsApp chat will only be accessible to you. However, it is crucial to keep in mind that this setting is only applicable to chats, and those with your device can still answer or reject WhatsApp calls.
