How to pair multiple Bluetooth speakers to a single device

Today, smart home integration has made routine tasks within the household more accessible. In fact, smartphones have made it fairly effortless to operate multiple devices with a single tap.

That said, the hassle of having to pair more than one speaker or device with your phone may seem tiring, to say the least. But while it seems somewhat complicated, it is, as a matter of fact, possible to have multiple speakers connected. Read on to find out.

Who needs to connect two speakers at once?

For your home to be a smart home, it’s imperative to have your phone connected to an Alexa, Google Home or Apple HomePod. Apart from this, whether you need to have your earphones connected or require a connection with another Bluetooth device like your smartwatch, dual connectivity can help you in many ways. However, achieving this largely depends upon the phone you’re using, along with the Bluetooth version on it. Here’s what you need to know:

A step-by-step guide to connecting multiple Bluetooth speakers to your phone

Today, you have the option of using dual audio or audio sharing, depending on whether you’re using iOS or Android. For users with iPhone 8 and above, this feature can be natively found on your device. Before you begin, try connecting both speakers individually with your phone. Once you’re through, there are a few other steps you can follow:

Android users:

Step 1: Navigate to Bluetooth settings and pair your audio devices one by one

Step 2: Once you establish a connection, click on the three-dot icon on the right-hand corner of the screen and select Advanced Settings

Step 3: Depending on the smartphone you use, you will find a dual audio (or an equivalent feature) within the menu. Toggle this dual audio button on

Step 4: On doing this, you will be able to have multiple devices connected to your phone

It is crucial to note that this feature will depend on the particular brand. Apart from this, some speaker brands, such as JBL, also provide a built-in option for you to integrate one or more JBL speakers for stereo sound with your smartphone.

iOS users:

Step 1: Open the Control Center on your iPhone

Step 2: Within General settings, look for the AirPlay option

Step 3: On doing this, select the paired wireless audio or speakers, respectively

Step 4: Once through, you will be able to switch between the two devices

Note: Your iPhone will stop streaming media on any of the devices you deselect.

There are several other ways you can try connecting multiple speakers. This includes using apps like AmpMe. However, know that having a Bluetooth version v4.2 or lower supports only one-on-one device connection of up to 30 metres. For connectivity over 120 meters or the option to pair two devices at once, your smartphone will require a Bluetooth v5 and above.
