Google Lens’ newest trick includes scanning your rash and helping you get rid of it

How to identify skin conditions with Google Lens

Google Lens is one of the handiest tools you can have on your smartphone. The app lets you use your camera to scan things around you and get quick, handy information. However, Google is known to update Lens’ abilities from time to time, allowing you to do more by simply pointing your smartphone in the right direction.

The latest of these new Google Lens features is the ability to use the app to identify skin conditions. This works by finding similar images online, allowing a user to find more details about the kind of skin ailment their camera is pointing at.

Do you have a rash you want Google Lens to have a quick look at? Here’s how to get started.

Download Google Lens

Before you start using Google Lens to identify skin conditions, you will need to download the dedicated app from the App Store (iOS) or the Google Play Store (Android). Once the app is installed, give it any required permissions for seamless operation, especially the permission to use your phone’s camera.

Take a picture of the affected area

You can take a picture of the affected area of your skin using the Google Lens built-in camera app or even your phone’s default camera app. If you choose to use Lens’ own camera, simply tap on the large camera icon in the middle to get started. You can also use the picture selector below to use an existing image.

Crop your image if required

While Lens will auto-crop your image to focus on a particular area, you can also manually adjust this crop. Simply drag the four white corners of the selection area as desired. When you change the cropping, the search results will also change.

Click on a result for more information

You can now click on any of the results below to get more information on your condition. Google Lens can help you identify burns, boils, cuts, rashes or other common types of skin conditions.

Remember that Google Lens will only help you identify basic skin conditions. If you’re in pain and your symptoms are severe or getting worse, consult your doctor immediately.
