We depend on our smartphones, and by extension, on our cellular network for very crucial day-to-day tasks. Whether for calling or texting our loved ones, sharing memes, using maps to not feel lost, or using the internet for work, mobile network is a silent saviour. While these things can be done using a Wi-Fi network as well, you might not be lucky enough to find Wi-Fi everywhere you go. 

So, it is obvious that we’d be frustrated when our phone signals are hindered. Let’s see why that might be happening. And what you can do to fix it. 

What might be the cause for having a poor phone signal?

From physical obstacles to SIM card issues, there are a lot of reasons for a low mobile network. Here are a few common reasons for it: 

1. Cell tower: You might be at a distance from the cell tower, making it difficult for your phone to have a strong signal.

2. Smartphone issues: Your phone system being old or having a low battery can affect your signal strength. 

3. SIM card issues: A damaged SIM card or a poorly placed SIM card will also affect your network. 

4. Physical obstacles: Thick walls of concrete, metal or even being surrounded by trees can cause poor network. 

5. Other interferences: Radio signals, microwaves, or your TVs could be interfering with your phone signal. 

How to get better signal on your smartphone

Here are some common fixes you can try to get a proper cell signal on your smartphone: 

1. Turn the ‘Airplane’ mode on and turn it off after a few minutes. 

2. If that doesn’t work, try turning your phone off. 

3. Turn off other services like ‘Mobile Data‘, ‘Wi-Fi’, ‘Bluetooth’, and ‘DnD’. 

4. Remove your phone case. 

5. Move towards a window or an open space away from thick walls.

6. Try moving away from gadgets that might hinder your network reception like radios and microwaves. 

7. Make sure your smartphone system is updated, and your phone has adequate battery.
