How to enable Game Mode on your iPhone with iOS 18

The iOS 18 update rolled out for eligible iPhones early this week and has brought a host of features with it. Apart from introducing RCS messaging and the liberty to customise, plenty of other useful features are a part of Apple’s biggest update ever.

For one, the iPhone finally gets a dedicated Game Mode that can significantly improve frame rates, Bluetooth controller responsiveness, as well as enhance audio quality during gameplay. Here’s everything it can do and how to enable it on your device:

What is Game Mode on iPhone?

Game Mode on iPhone typically minimises background activity on your device so you can game seamlessly. It also delivers consistent frame rates for the best possible gaming experience and your iPhone chipset will automatically prioritise the game you’re playing once the mode is toggled on.

While Game Mode is useful across titles, it is particularly helpful when you’re dealing with demanding or heavier games, and will make them more immersive than ever. Game Mode will also improve the Bluetooth polling rate with controllers and make gameplay responsiveness snappier.

On the audio front, the mode reduces audio latency with AirPods Pro 2 or later and ensures you have access to sounds like bells or whistles during the session. Of course, it is crucial to consider that once Game Mode is switched on, other processes may take longer to complete on your iPhone, along with a steady battery drop.

To switch it off, simply tap the notification on your screen and you should notice a ‘Game Mode Off’ message. Wondering if your iPhone is eligible for the update? Check out our complete list here and make sure you subscribe to Unboxed by Croma for more tech updates.
