Tips and tricks for quicker, more efficient laundry

How to dry your clothes faster in a washing machine

How to dry clothes faster in a washing machine is a question we’ve all grappled with at some point or the other. Laundry day somehow always seems to coincide with an unexpected need for a particular outfit, and suddenly the drying cycle seems to take forever.

Even on regular days, the drying process in a washing machine can be time-consuming, especially when you’re trying to dry a smaller load quickly. To optimise your laundry routine then, here are some tips to help you dry clothes faster in a washing machine.

Drying clothes faster in your washing machine: How to do it

1. Choose the right spin cycle and the correct heat setting

Start by selecting the highest possible spin cycle on your washing machine. This setting extracts the maximum amount of water from your clothes before you transfer them to the dryer.

Additionally, always choose the appropriate heat setting for the type of clothes you are drying. Lower heat settings are often sufficient and can help prevent over-drying and subsequent damage to your clothes.

2. Avoid overloading and drying in batches

If you have a large load, it may be more efficient to split it into smaller batches. This not only speeds up drying times but also allows for better airflow and faster drying. Overloading can prevent clothes from spinning properly and limit the effectiveness of the drying process.

3. Use a towel

Add a clean, dry towel into the dryer with your wet clothes. The towel will help absorb moisture from the clothes, speeding up the drying process.

4. Check and clean the lint filter

Before starting the dryer, ensure that the lint filter is clean. A clogged filter can restrict airflow and lengthen drying time. You should clean the lint screen every six months by removing the trap, washing it with hot water and liquid detergent, scrubbing it with a nylon brush, and then drying it before putting it back into the dryer.

5. Clean the vents for optimal airflow

Ensure good airflow by cleaning both the interior and exterior dryer vents. Unplug the dryer and detach the vent hose to clean out lint and dust using a brush or vacuum.

For the exterior vent, locate it, remove the vent cover, and clear out any debris with a brush or vacuum hose. Once done, replace the vent cover and plug the dryer back in, running an empty cycle to clear any remaining dust.

By following these steps, you can optimise the drying process and help your clothes dry faster in the washing machine.
