YouTube Music loyalists will soon be able to enjoy a feature that will let them download their favourite songs offline. While this was already available for smartphone app users, Google-owned YouTube is gradually rolling this out for laptop and desktop users as well. A recent report published by 9to5Google also revealed how the company has been testing this feature, and it is beginning to reach more and more users via updates. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

YouTube Music offline download feature: How will it work for your laptop app?

To download music offline on your laptop, there are a few simple steps that you might have to follow. Check them out below:

Step 1: Open the YouTube Music desktop app on your laptop or desktop
Step 2: Navigate to a song or an album that you wish to download
Step 3: Once you click on play, you will be able to see a download option to save your preferred track offline
Step 4: When you’re through downloading, the file will be saved into a separate Downloads tab on a user’s library

Users will have the ability to filter and sort their saved tracks after they’re downloaded to the library. However, it is crucial to note that offline downloads on the web app have a 10-device download limit. Like the smartphone app, YouTube Music for your desktop, too, will require you to redownload or renew your tracks after 30 days.

Who can download YouTube Music tracks?

Only users with a Premium subscription will be able to download music via their YouTube Music desktop app. While this feature is available for podcasts as well, it remains unclear if regular users can download podcasts without a subscription. If you haven’t received this feature yet, don’t worry, you might soon be eligible for an update. You might also want to keep a lookout for a message near your library that reads “New! Download music to listen offline”. Happy streaming!
