How to download and install iOS 18 public beta on your iPhone

Apple’s iOS 18 is the next big update for iPhones, and even if you keep the Apple Intelligence AI features suite aside, there is a lot to wait for. Fortunately, the new update has just moved from the ‘developer beta’ stage to the ‘public beta’ stage.

For the uninitiated, that basically means that iOS 18 is now stable enough for public beta testers to try the operating system on their iPhones and report any bugs to Apple. While it isn’t the bug-free stable version all of us are waiting for, those who absolutely cannot wait to try out iOS 18 can now install the public beta.

Sound interesting? Here’s how you can actually enrol yourself to get the iOS 18 public beta build up and running on your iPhone. But before that, do remember that public beta builds, are still beta builds, and this could mean bugs.

If the iPhone in question is your only device/primary device, we would recommend waiting for the stable iOS 18 update. Also remember that Apple Intelligence is not currently live on the iOS 18 beta, even if you have an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max.

How to get iOS 18 public beta on your iPhone

Start by making sure your iPhone is already updated to the latest stable version. To do this. Head to Settings > General > Software Update. If an update is available, you should see a card for the same here, and can then follow on-screen instructions to update.

Once that is out of the way, head to the Apple Beta Program webpage, and click on ‘Sign Up’. Do make sure that you are using the same Apple ID that you use on the phone. You will also be required to read and agree to several terms and conditions.

Once this is done, you will need to select what OS you would like to try out beta builds for. Choose iOS 18 here, and you can then proceed.

Now, you can head back to the Settings app and go to General > Software Update. You should now see an iOS 18 Beta card, and you can again, follow the on-screen instructions to update your iPhone. After a reboot, your phone should be running the iOS 18 public beta.
