Pattern lock is a popular security lock for a smartphone as well as apps. With this, one must basically decide on a unique pattern and draw it using the nine dots. Many folks who have trouble remembering numeric or alphanumeric passwords use pattern lock. But if your phone’s touch is not working properly or you don’t want to use a pattern lock, then you can make use the below methods to disable a pattern lock.

How to disable a pattern lock?

There are multiple ways in which you can disable a pattern lock. We discuss these methods below.

Turn off screen lock for home screen

One way to disable pattern lock is to get rid of screen lock altogether. If you aren’t worried about your phone’s security, then you can follow the steps below to disable the lock screen.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap on Password & Security.
3. Click on Lock Screen.
4. You will be prompted to enter the current pattern password.
5. You will see options for different security locks.
a. Numeric Password
b. Alphanumeric Password
c. None.
6. Tap on None.
7. Again, you will have to enter the pattern lock.
8. Now you won’t have any lock on your screen.

Turn on numeric or alphanumeric security for your phone

Apart from the pattern lock, you have options for the numeric or alphanumeric lock.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap on Password & Security.
3. Click on Lock Screen.
4. You will be prompted to enter the current password for a screen lock.
5. You will see options for different security locks.
a. Numeric Password
b. Alphanumeric Password
c. None
6. Tap on any of the above options.
7. Enter the old password.
8. Then you will be prompted to set a new password.
a. For Numeric, type in a strong password with numbers.
b. For Alphanumeric, type in a strong password with a mix of numbers and letters.
9. Again, enter the password to confirm.
10. Now your new password is set.

Turn on the fingerprint lock for your screen

A fingerprint is a popular security password. Our fingerprint is unique to us. With a fingerprint lock, no one would be able to intercept your phone. Follow the steps below to turn on the fingerprint lock.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap on Password & Security.
3. Tap on Fingerprint.
4. You will be prompted to enter the current password for the screen lock.
5. Now, you will have to save your fingerprint on your phone.
6. Put your finger on the home button several times until the fingerprint is saved.
7. You can set the fingerprint now for screen lock and app lock as well.

Turn on the face lock for your screen

Almost all Android phones will have a face lock. Your face is the password here. You just must face your phone while opening it. You don’t need to touch your phone. Follow the steps below to turn on the face lock.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap on Password & Security.
3. Tap on Face.
4. You will be prompted to enter the current password for the screen lock.
5. Tap on Set up a Face lock.
6. Agree with the disclaimer, if any.
7. Now your face will be scanned.
8. Follow the instructions on your screen.
9. Tap Done.
10. Now your face is saved on the phone. You can use it for screen or app lock.

Disable Pattern Lock for apps

We apply locks to important applications like Google Pay, WhatsApp, and mailing apps like Outlook. You can follow the below steps to disable pattern lock for specific apps.

1. Tap on Settings.
2. Search for App Lock. Tap on it.
3. You will be prompted to enter the current password for privacy.
4. You can turn off the app lock from here.
5. Now you can use the above locks like fingerprint or face locks for your apps.
