How to customise the always-on display on a Samsung Galaxy smartphone

Samsung introduced the always-on display (AOD) back in 2016, and since then, it has witnessed numerous improvements till date. Today, the AOD feature on Galaxy devices allows you to glance over the time, date, notifications, missed calls, and more, even when the screen is turned off. But if that’s not nearly enough, users also have the option of customising it with One UI 7. We’ve curated all the ways you can shake up your AOD settings; check them out here:

How to customise your AOD on Samsung

AOD is great for times you want to flip your Galaxy device and simply check out your important notifications. We have a few steps in place that you can follow to customise the always-on display on your Samsung Galaxy device. But before you go ahead, make sure the Touch and Hold to Edit feature is enabled within Settings > Lock Screen and AOD. Once you’re all set, here’s everything you can do with One UI 7.

Change the position, size, font, and style of the clock

To begin, tap and hold your lock screen (not your AOD screen) and enter the edit mode to customise your clock. While the clock is positioned at the top of your screen by default, this setting will allow you to drag and drop it at the desired location on your screen. Additionally, you can drag it from the corners to resize the widget.

You also have the option of changing the clock’s colour and font size, or even choosing a completely different AOD clock if you wish. Once you select the font, you can adjust the size by swiping across the slider. Apart from increasing the length, you can also make the font bolder or thinner, as per your comfort.

For the colour, select any of the solid or gradient finishes available at the bottom. You can even tap the ‘A’ button that adapts the colour of your chosen wallpaper.

Lastly, you can switch up the style by choosing between 10 clocks, including digital, analogue and informative adaptions that show you the calendar or the day’s schedule. That said, for now, you can only tweak the font to the digital-styled clock, but you can still switch up its colours and enhance visibility.

Other ways to customise the AOD on your Galaxy device

Apart from adjusting the clock, you can always change the brightness of your AOD. The adaptive setting changes the levels based on the ambient lighting in your room to ensure optimum visibility.

Further, you can also customise how it looks by enabling the ‘Show lock screen wallpaper’ option. This can dim your wallpaper and keep it as your background for the always-on screen. Moreover, you can also choose to display the ‘Now Bar‘, the Dynamic Island equivalent for Samsung, that shows you interactive widgets on the screen.

All you have to do is press the toggle beside the Show Now bar option, to make it visible on screen. Next, the When to Show menu also now has a new feature in place. It had four distinctive options: Tap to show, Always, Show as scheduled, and Show for latest notifications.

These are some customisation options for a Galaxy device. While there aren’t many with One UI 7.0, compared to the One UI 6.0 update, you always have the option of installing third-party apps for additional modifications, of course, at your own risk!

Lastly, is also crucial to keep in mind that AOD can significantly drain the battery life of your smartphone. For more tips, tricks or hacks, stay subscribed to Unboxed by Croma.
