How to clean a TV screen: A step-by-step guide

Cleaning your TV screen might seem like a chore, but it’s actually pretty simple with the right steps. With everything going on in daily life, our TVs often get overlooked as we tend to prioritise and focus on other important tasks. Before you know it, your TV screen is covered in smudges, fingerprints, and dust, which can seriously mess with your viewing experience and make everything look dull and fuzzy. So, in order to get your TV screen back to its crystal-clear best, here’s how to clean your TV.

How to clean a TV screen

Keeping your TV screen clean is crucial for an overall great viewing experience. It might seem like a small task, but regular cleaning helps prevent dust and grime buildup, so your TV screen stays in top condition and delivers a crisp, clear picture everytime you watch.

To get started, you’ll need a microfiber cloth, and optionally, some distilled water and mild dish soap for those extra stubborn stains. With all that out of the way, here’s a step-by-step guide to cleaning a TV screen:

1. Turn off and unplug your TV

Start by turning off and unplugging your TV. This prevents any risk of electric shock and also ensures that you won’t accidentally turn the TV on while it’s being cleaned.

2. Clean the overall dust

Then, begin by gently wiping the screen with a dry microfiber cloth. This helps to remove dust and loose particles that can accumulate over time. Be sure to use soft, circular motions to avoid scratching the screen.

3. Spot cleaning

If you notice fingerprints or smudges, lightly dampen a microfiber cloth with distilled water. Wring it out well so it’s just barely damp.

Gently wipe the affected areas in circular motions. This helps to lift off the smudges without spreading them around. Applying too much pressure can scratch the screen, so go easy.

4. Dealing with stubborn stains

For more persistent stains, add a tiny drop of mild dish soap to the damp cloth. Make sure to dilute it well to avoid leaving soap residue on the screen. Gently clean the stained areas, then wipe with a clean, damp microfiber cloth to remove any soapy residue.

5. Drying

Finally, use a dry microfiber cloth to wipe away any remaining moisture. This helps to ensure that no streaks or water spots are left behind, giving you a clear screen.
