Laptop keyboard cleaning is something that we always ignore. Unfortunately, just Googling ‘How do I clean a laptop keyboard?’ or ‘How do you clean a laptop keyboard at home? Is not enough. Due to all the constant work on your laptop, it can also be a bedding ground for dust and bacteria.
Other elements like food crumbs and debris are also a problem. But do not panic; we are here to provide you with a simple guide to help you keep infections at bay and extend the shelf life of your laptop’s keyboard. Let’s dive into it!
What tools you will need
Before you even start with the keyboard cleansing process, it is important to gather all your supplies in one place. These include a clean microfiber cloth, some Isopropyl alcohol and a few fresh cotton swabs.
How to clean your laptop keyboard
Here’s how to clean your laptop keyboard.
1. Dampen your microfiber cloth with a few drops of isopropyl alcohol. Make sure you are adding a sufficient amount and not making it dripping wet, as an excess of this chemical can damage your keyboard and make the paint fade out. Slowly and gently wipe down the keys on the keyboard, targeting the inner corners too and then the surrounding areas to remove any stuck dirt, oil particles or debris.
2. To remove any food particles, dirt or debris stuck in the laptop keyboard, you can simply shake it gently and get rid of it. Also, make sure you are not shaking it aggressively, as this might damage small internal parts of your laptop.

3. You can also use a small cotton ball with a few drops of isopropyl alcohol to wipe out hand marks or any oil on the buttons of your laptop’s keyboard. Now, your laptop keyboard should be all cleaned out. If your keyboard does get dirty frequently, you can also consider getting a keyboard cover (which is much easier to clean) to keep the internals safe from unwanted solids or even liquids.
Safety tips to keep in mind
Before you begin the keyboard cleaning process, make sure the laptop is away from any plugged power source, as this can lead to accidents or electric shock. Also, moisture is a good adapter of electricity; hence, make sure to not keep your laptop on charging while you start cleaning it.
Remember that the incorporation of a weekly or monthly laptop keyboard cleaning session can help you to improve the shelf life of your laptop, especially keeping internal components safe.
