How to check your device’s Windows version

You should know your Windows version for several important reasons. Not only does it ensure software compatibility, but also helps you to troubleshoot specific problems effectively. Different operating system versions will have varying features, security updates, and system requirements. Hence, if you are not already aware, here are the steps to follow to know your laptop’s Windows version.

How to find out Windows version

To find out your present Windows version, press the Windows logo key and R together. A dialog box will open. Type “winver” in the Open box and click on OK. If you are using Windows 11, Windows 10 or Windows 8.1, this process will lead you to the details of your Windows version.

But if this doesn’t work, you are probably using an older OS version. On these versions, you can click on the Start button, and type Computer in the search box. Once you locate the “Computer” option, right-click on it, and select Properties. Under the Windows edition banner, you will find the version and edition of your Windows computer.
