5G has launched in India. Before the services reach our doorsteps swoop us off our feet, let’s answer a burning question that’s on most of our minds – how to check if my mobile phone supports 5G?
What is a 5G phone?
A 5G phone is a standard device that can connect to a 5G network. 5G phones must have 5G-capable processors to support 5G. Depending on the standard, 5G networks will offer speeds from 50Mbps to as much as 1.8Gbps.
How to check if an Android phone supports 5G
1. Checking online
Online specs are the easiest way to determine whether your smartphone supports 5G. It is possible to get the specs by going to the company’s official website or by checking an authentic online blog. You can go to one of the websites directly and search for the specs by entering the model of your smartphone.
2. Check Android settings
Your smartphone can also be easily tested for 5G compatibility in another way. In your Android phone’s settings, you can find this information. The steps are as follows:
Step 1: In Settings, select Network & Internet or Wi-Fi & Network.
Step 2: You will get either of these options: “SIM & network” or “Mobile network”. Select whichever you see.
Step 3: Open the “Preferred network type” option.
Here, your phone will show all the mobile networks it supports, including 3G, 4G, and 5G. If your phone supports 5G, it will be mentioned in the list of all the networks.

3. Third-party apps
Some third-party apps like LTE Discovery can also tell you whether your phone supports 5G. These not only show the compatibility, but also offer free internet speed testing.
How to check if an iPhone supports 5G
5G is only available in iPhone 12 and later models. If you’re using two SIM cards with these iPhones, you’ll not be able to get 5G if both SIMs are active. Turning off one of your SIMs is the only way to enable 5G.
