How to add Instagram’s new ‘Add Yours’ template feature for stories

Instagram has been generous when it comes to adding a bunch of new features to its smartphone app. These include the recently introduced filters to ensure your #OOTD stay on top of the game. But if that’s not all, the Meta-owned platform has now decided to introduce templates for its stories, similar to that of Reels. Known as ‘Add Yours’, the feature will now allow users to create custom templates for their stories. Wondering how to get started at using it? Here’s what you need to know.

What is 'Add Yours' template for stories?

The next time you come across a sunset you really love, you can invite your friends to add their sunset photos with a caption. In fact, if you’ve come across a story that lets you repost with text, GIF or an image, you’re looking at an ‘Add Yours’ template.

And if that’s not all, you can even use a randomised prompt to make it more fun for your Instagram buddies. You also will be notified each time a user adds their element to the template, and you will also be credited as the ‘original poster’ of the story.

How to use the 'Add Yours' template for an Instagram story

Using an ‘Add Yours’ sticker on your story or reel is simple and needs only a few quick steps. However, before you begin, ensure your Instagram is updated to the latest stable or beta version. Here’s how to go about it:

Step 1: After creating your story, click on the ‘Elements’ icon on top of the page
Step 2: Once the menu pops up, you will be able to spot the ‘Add Yours’ sticker among other elements
Step 3: You will then have the option to add your own prompt or select a randomised prompt for your story template
Step 4: Once you’re through adding, click on Done
Step 5: Your story will then be posted with a prompt, and you will also be able to tell which of your friends have interacted with it

It is crucial to note that if your account is set to private, anyone outside of your followers will not be able to see your name credited to the story. Similarly, if you share the story on your Close Friends list, anyone outside of your green circle will not be able to see your name; however, they will still be able to repost it.

With Instagram improving its user experience, there’s no denying that garnering engagement and keeping things fun has now become simpler for users. That said, we can’t wait to see what’s new in the pipeline for us in the near future.
