More than just a buzzword: How Agentic AI will transform everyday life

Is it the next chapter for generative AI?

More than just a buzzword: How Agentic AI will transform everyday life

For years, Generative AI has dominated tech conversations, finding its way into everything from smartphones to laptops, appliances, and even everyday software applications. But a new term quickly gaining traction is ‘Agentic AI’.

Unlike Gen AI, which relies heavily on user prompts, Agentic AI is designed to be more autonomous, learning and adapting to users’ preferences with minimal intervention. While both forms of AI have their merits, the rise of Agentic AI signals a shift towards a more proactive and intuitive digital experience – from AI-powered assistants that anticipate our needs to devices that dynamically adapt based on usage patterns.

At MWC 2025, Rahul Sandil, VP & General Manager of Global Marketing & Communications at MediaTek, spoke with Unboxed on how these AI paradigms are no longer just buzzwords, but are actively shaping the way we interact with technology.

Agentic AI: The future of intelligent assistance

Agentic AI’s ability to autonomously manage tasks across devices is what sets it apart. Unlike Generative AI, which requires specific commands, Agentic AI can adjust settings, optimise workflows, and personalise user experiences without constant prompts.

Imagine a future where your laptop pre-adjusts its brightness and notification settings based on your meeting schedule or where your smart home system automatically fine-tunes the temperature based on your routine.

Sandil elaborated on this shift, stating, “The ability for you to move from one application to another and adjust your settings on the fly is game-changing. A computer using Agentic AI will have a memory of its own about how you like things done. The ability to analyse your daily schedule and proactively offer recommendations is incredibly exciting.”

This proactive approach extends beyond just convenience; it fundamentally redefines human-device interaction. As devices become more context-aware, the user experience will shift from reactive engagement to predictive assistance.

MediaTek, which has been a driving force in mobile computing, sees Agentic AI as the next frontier. Sandil was quick to highlight that AI will no longer be an add-on feature; it will be a core component of how technology operates in our daily lives.

AI for everyone: Democratising cutting-edge technology

AI was once considered a premium feature, reserved for flagship devices. However, brands like MediaTek, alongside their partner OEMs, have been working towards democratising AI-powered experiences, bringing them to mid-range and budget-friendly devices as well.

“As a company, we’ve been leveraging AI for a while now. AI marries so well into our mission of enriching and enhancing life for everyone. We really believe AI is a superpower”, said Sandil.

The ultimate goal? AI for the masses.

According to Counterpoint Research, Generative AI is already seeing wide acceptance. As per a recent study, 59 per cent of users are open to switching to a Gen AI smartphone this year, which indicates a growing interest in AI features and their ability to ease workloads across sectors.

With capabilities far exceeding generative AI’s capabilities, it won’t be surprising if Agentic AI sees a wider adoption in the coming years.

The road ahead: A smarter, AI-first future

The integration of Agentic AI and Generative AI into mainstream devices marks a pivotal shift in how we interact with technology. The future isn’t just about AI responding to us; it’s about AI anticipating our needs, adapting to our behaviours, and evolving alongside us.

While some may still see Generative and Agentic AI as mere industry jargon, it’s clear that their real-world impact is already unfolding.
