HMD Global has launched a new smartphone in India with a modular design, featuring a six-pin connector on the rear to attach, what it calls ‘Smart Outfits’. Smart Outfits are intended to make the new HMD Fusion get fresh aesthetics, while adding a use case, like a ring light for selfies, among other things.
Does that intrigue you? If yes, then read on to see HMD Fusion’s special features, specifications, and price in India.
What’s special with HMD Fusion?
The major highlight of the new HMD Fusion is its modular design. It supports interchangeable back panels, which HMD Global calls Smart Outfits. But how are the back panels smart, you may wonder. That’s because they not only add a style statement to the device, but also add a use case.

HMD Fusion ships with three Smart Outfits, namely, Fusion Casual Outfit, Fusion Flashy Outfit, and, Fusion Gaming Outfit. The Fusion Casual Outfit just adds a design element to the device, with its textured back.
The Fusion Flashy Outfit adds a ring light to your smartphone, which means you can up your selfie game with the HMD Fusion smartphone. The third and the most interesting back panel, Fusion Gaming Outfit, is nothing but a game controller outfit that is aimed at making gaming fun. With this outfit, you can turn HMD Fusion into a handheld gaming device.
These outfits can be powered and connected with the six-pin connector on rear of the phone. Apart from this, the HMD Fusion, at heart, is a standard budget smartphone. Let’s see its rest of the specifications.
HMD Fusion specifications and price
HMD Fusion sports a 6.56-inch punch-hole LCD display with an HD+ resolution of 720 x 1612 pixels. It has a 90Hz refresh rate support for smooth scrolling and 600 nits of peak brightness for better visibility in bright light.

There’s a modest dual-rear camera system with a 108MP main lens and 2MP portrait sensor. Upfront, however, it gets a 50MP camera for clicking selfies and making video calls.
What’s more? Powering the device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset paired with 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage. It also has a microSD card slot for those who want more storage of up to 1TB.
As far as the battery is concerned, it houses a standard 5,000mAh cell with 33W fast charging support. Note that HMD isn’t shipped the charging adapter in the box, so you have to pay extra for that.
Unfortunately, the smartphone runs on Android 14 OS out of the box, which is a year old. However, HMD has promised the device to get two OS updates and three years of security updates, which means it should get the Android 15 update soon.
In terms of connectivity, it has 5G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, and GPS. There’s also an IP54 rating offering dust and splash resistance.

The HMD Fusion in single black shade is priced at Rs 17,999. Interestingly, HMD is offering all three aforementioned outfits worth Rs 5,999 as complimentary to the initial buyers.
While HMD Fusion appears to be a interesting smartphone in the sub-Rs 20,000 segment, you can also consider some of its alternatives, like the CMF Phone 1, which also comes with interchangeable back panel, and the slightly pricier OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite for the OnePlus experience.
