Imagine having a ring light attached to your smartphone that helps you take brighter photos. What if it is possible by just changing your phone cover? HMD Fusion is a sort of modular smartphone that come with interchangeable phone covers. These covers add new functionalities to an otherwise standard phone.
What is unique about HMD Fusion?
HMD Fusion’s modular capabilities is courtesy of a six-pin connector on the back. This allows users to fit different kinds of cases to the phone that add a functionality or two to the phone. Since each of the covers is adds a unique feature, HMD is terming them as ‘Outfits’. Reminds you of the Moto Mods, doesn’t it?
A ring light adds to your selfie game with the ‘Flashy Outfit’. It features a ring light that can be placed on top of the camera. The ‘Rugged Outfit’ adds an IP68 rating to the phone. While a seemingly black and transparent look, you can add a bit of pop style along with protection with their ‘Casual Outfit’.

There’s also an HMD Fusion Toolkit, which contains the CAD files and the API that can help you build a personalised Smart Outfits.
HMD Fusion key features
The smartphone comes with a 6.56-inch IPS LCD screen with HD+ resolution, and 90Hz refresh rate. For photography, the rear camera setup includes a 108MP main sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. Up front, is a 50MP camera for selfies and video calls.

Under the hood is a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. The phone runs Android 14 out of the box, with the brand promising two years of OS upgrades and three years of security updates. A 5,000mAh battery is also included with support for 33W charging.
HMD Fusion prices
HMD Fusion will debut in Europe with a base price of 249 Euros (approximately Rs 23,200). This will then be followed by a US release. HMD will begin sales of its ‘Fusion Outfits’ later in 2024.
