Grok AI rolls out as a standalone app for iPhones; here’s what it can do

Only a couple of years ago, Elon Musk took over Twitter (now X), and the micro-blogging platform has embraced plenty of functional and design changes to date. Among everything new, the Elon Musk-led platform unveiled its very own artificial intelligence assistant Grok developed by Musk’s company xAI.

The chatbot was a part of X’s smartphone app and was briefly available to premium subscribers. However, it was made available to all X users a few weeks ago and has recently also been introduced as a standalone iOS app for its users. Here’s everything you need to know:

What is Grok, and what can it do?

Like ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude, Grok is an AI assistant and it comes with a box that prompts the users toask anything’. From document uploads to images, Musk’s AI bot is equipped to handle real-time search, report analysis as well as codes.

Apart from this, it can fetch real-time information from X, which also constitutes a big database pool for breaking news and other time-sensitive reports. While most of its functions remain the same as other chatbots available today, Grok also gets two modes.

The Regular mode is reserved for users seeking facts or straightforward information. However, it also gets anUnhingedmode, which was introduced by Musk in March 2024. This mode, unlike the other, adds a layer of humour and sarcasm to its responses.

The platform mentions how the Unhinged mode is great for times you’re seeking an entertaining conversation, whereas the Regular mode is fit for times you need a brainstorming session.

Elon Musk introduces Grok iOS app: What's there to know?

The official social media handle of xAI recently announced a dedicated app for Grok. According to the post, users will not need to log into the app to access any of its features. That said, once signed into X, the account will allow users to personalise the AI chatbot as per their whims.

Based on its listing on the App Store, users will be able to benefit from features such as Image Generation, and real-time access to web data, along with a spotlight on privacy.

For now, the app is only available to users based in the USA. However, several users have reportedly been able to use it in India as well. That said, it is best to wait for an official announcement by the brand. Stay tuned to Unboxed by Croma for more details.
