It’s all fun and games watching contestants on Masterchef Australia or Hell’s Kitchen scramble and race against time to cook up delectable, lip-smacking grub with the ingredients they have. It’s a whole different matter figuring out what to cook for dinner after getting back from a long day at work – full of endless meetings, PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets, and more.
And then again, there’s only so much you can live off cup noodles and leftovers, right? Every once in a while, you feel like cooking up and eating something nice. Or perhaps, you’re just trying to ensure that the old bottle of honey in your pantry, or the lettuce in your refrigerator doesn’t go to waste because you don’t know how to use them. Well, this is where Gordon Rams.ai steps in.
What is the Gordon Rams.ai app?
Gordon Rams.ai is a fairly simple AI-based recipe generator. What it does, in essence, is provide you with recipes to cook based on whatever you have available in your refrigerator or pantry.
All you have to do is mention all of the ingredients you have available in a window on the app. Based on these ingredients, at the tap of a button, it’ll draw up multiple recipes for you to choose from. The Gordon Rams.ai app is very helpful for bachelors (like me) who live alone, and don’t have any culinary skills to write home about.
Gordon Rams.ai: Things I liked about the app
Right off the bat, what stands out with the Gordon Rams.ai app is its super-clean interface. When you open the app, you’re greeted by a screen with a rather minimalist design, with a window wherein you’re supposed to mention the ingredients you have. Once done, simply tap on “What can I make” highlighted in green at the bottom, and the app will provide you with a selection of recipes based on the ingredients you have.

What’s cool is, there is no limit on the number of recipes you can ask the app to generate, and neither are there any annoying advertisements popping up.
Even better is the fact that the recipes provide you with a detailed list of ingredients to keep handy, and a step-by-step breakdown of how to go about the prep and cooking process. Oh, and. Say you’re not happy with the recipes the app suggests to you. Well, you also get an option to add, remove, or substitute ingredients, based on which the app provides you with a few reworked suggestions.
Gordon Rams.ai: Things I didn’t like so much
While Gordon Rams.ai is handy, and not to mention, incredibly easy to use, it does have a few shortcomings. First off is the fact that it can only take into account the ingredients you have, not the equipment you have. In my case as an example, all I have at home is a solo microwave oven. However, it ended up suggesting a few recipes that required me to work with a convection microwave oven or even an air fryer.
Secondly, while the app does tell you the quantity of the basic ingredients you require to cook – Chicken burgers in my case, it doesn’t tell you just how many the recipe will serve. So, the actual cooking process requires a lot of eyeballing and estimating as well.
Lastly, Gordon Rams.ai, rather strangely, is listed by the name of Recipes by Ingredient – By HeyD.ai on the Google Play Store, which makes it difficult to find the app as well. I myself stumbled upon it by accident. These, however, are small niggles in what is otherwise an incredibly handy tool to have.
How to get Gordon Rams.ai?
Gordon Rams.ai is an entirely free app, with no in-app features at all. Now, there are advertisements in the app, or so says the app’s description on Google Play Store at least. Strangely, while there was a tiny bar that constantly said “Ad Loading” on the ‘Recipes’ screen, no advertisements actually showed up. But hey, I’m not complaining.
For now, the app is available exclusively on Android smartphones. It isn’t available for iPhones, and neither has there been any indication of if and when it will be rolled out either.
Having said that, if you use an Android phone, and whether you’re a budding chef with a strong inclination towards the culinary arts, or just someone trying to recuperate from an exhausting week on Friday night with a soulful meal, Gordon Rams.ai is one app we highly recommend you try out.
