Google’s Pixel Studio app will now let you generate pictures of people using AI

Google announced its March Pixel Drop this month, and with it, came a bunch of exciting announcements — including an update for the Pixel Studio app. The app currently remains exclusive to Google’s latest Pixel 9 series and uses its very own in-house AI models to generate images, as well as, stickers. However, with the new update, Pixel users will soon gain the ability to generate pictures of humans using AI. Here’s how it will work, and everything else you need to know about it:

The Pixel Studio app had this feature temporarily revoked after concerns over racially inappropriate AI-generated images. However, after the brand introduced the Imagen 3 image generation model in December 2024, the feature was brought back rather cautiously to the users.

Via a blog post, Google recently mentioned that Pixel 9 smartphone owners will now be able to fully make use of this functionality by creating images of people using only text prompts. As of today, the app does not support image inputs for the feature. Moreover, the app has also expanded its availability to German and Japanese users with native language support.

While the feature was limited to English users previously, the new move comes in as the brand’s larger goal of enhancing accessibility for users across regions.

March Pixel Drop: Other new features introduced by Google

Google also introduced other notable features as a part of its March Pixel Drop. Many of these included several improvements to the Pixel ecosystem. Another significant addition includes the expansion of supported languages for Gemini Live, which now brings it to 45.

Apart from this, the Pixel Screenshots app will also feature a new Suggestions option that can provide users with recommendations to help them organise their screenshot collections better.

Lastly, it introduced a broader Android feature which will allow users to block scams with real-time alerts on suspicious texts. The company mentions how if it detects a potential scam, the smartphone will receive a real-time warning to help users block and report the conversation.
