Google TVs will soon let you talk to Gemini without a remote

Google TVs are about to get the much-needed upgrade, and this upgrade may let us ditch our Google TV remote. Why? Because we’ll soon be able to interact with Gemini on Google TVs without needing to have a remote on hand.

Google is working closely with manufacturers to introduce new Google TVs with far-field microphones, allowing you to directly interact with your TV from anywhere in the room. Sounds good? Here’s everything you need to know.

Your Google TV experience is about to get upgraded

According a report, the upcoming Google TVs will feature far-field microphones that can capture audio from a distance. This will allow you to talk to your TV’s voice assistant, i.e., Gemini, without having a remote on hand.

So, you’ll be able to talk to Gemini on your TV just like you’d do with your Google Home speaker or any other smart speaker. This is great for those who love to eat while watching TV. This way you can evoke Gemini without touching the remote, giving a true hands-free experience.

A far-field microphone isn’t the only upgrade here. Future Google TVs may also have a dedicated proximity sensor. For those unaware, proximity sensors are already available on most smartphones and they detect the presence of a nearby object.

With proximity sensors on Google TVs, Google aims to show you an on-screen hub right when you step close to your TV. The on-screen hub will consist personalised and informative widgets showing you the weather, latest news, calendar, and more.

These features will make Google TVs more interactive and productive, rather than just being there for entertainment. As of now, brands like TCL and Hisense have confirmed to offer their upcoming Google TVs with far-field microphones and proximity-based widgets.
