Charging issues with your Google Pixel? Try this

How to fix a Google Pixel that won’t charge

Is your Google Pixel phone not charging or is the charge draining out quickly? A dead or dying battery can be a major inconvenience and mess up your daily routine. Google Pixel not charging is a common complaint among users of different Pixel models and can stem from various problems, from software glitches to hardware malfunctions.

Before you consider replacing your phone or reaching out to customer support, there are some straightforward fixes you can try. So, to save you time, money, and frustration, here’s how to get your Google Pixel charging as it should and get back to your daily routine.

Reasons why your Google Pixel couldn't be charging

There can be a number of issues causing your Pixel to charge improperly or none at all. Here are some common culprits:

1. Damaged or duplicate cable or charger

A damaged or worn-out cable or charger is usually the most common issue. Cables can fray or break, and adapters can fail over time. If you’re using an old or questionable accessory, changing it to a new one might solve the problem. That’s why it’s always recommended to use genuine or certified accessories to ensure compatibility and safety.

2. Charging port may be faulty

Your charging port is crucial for a good connection. If it’s loose, bent, or filled with dirt and dust, it won’t make a solid connection with the charger. Check the port for any visible damage and make sure it’s clean.

3. Software glitches

Software issues can also mess with your charging. A bug might prevent your phone from charging properly. Make sure your Pixel’s software is up-to-date, and consider restarting your phone to clear out any temporary issues.

4. Battery wear and tear

Over time, your battery naturally degrades. If your Pixel has been with you for a few years, its battery might be losing its ability to hold a charge. In such cases, replacing the battery or seeking professional repair might be necessary.

5. Dust and debris

Dust and lint can accumulate in the charging port, obstructing the connection. This build-up can prevent your charger from making proper contact. Regularly clean the port with a soft brush or compressed air to keep it clear.

6. Overheating

When your Pixel overheats, it might stop charging to protect itself from heat damage. Overheating can occur from prolonged use or exposure to high temperatures. Make sure your phone is in a cool, well-ventilated area while charging, and avoid using it during charging.

How to fix a Google Pixel that is not charging

1. Check the charging cable and adapter

Start by checking your charging cable and adapter for any signs of wear and tear. If they look worn out, replacing them might fix the problem. Next, try plugging your charger into a different wall outlet or USB port, as the issue might be with the power source. Also, check the charging port on your Pixel for dust or debris and clean it out gently if necessary.

2. Restart your phone

Sometimes, a simple restart can fix most minor problems and bugs, including charging issues. To restart your Pixel, press and hold the power button until the menu appears, then select the restart option. If the screen is unresponsive, hold the power button for 30 seconds to force a restart. After your phone restarts, give it a minute or two before trying to charge it again.

3. Change charging methods

If your phone still isn’t charging, try using a different cable and adapter that are compatible with your Pixel. You can also switch from using a wall outlet to a USB port on your computer, or vice versa. If your Pixel supports wireless charging, try using a wireless charger, making sure your phone is properly aligned on the wireless charging pad.

4. Enter safe mode

Booting into Safe Mode can help determine if a third-party app is causing the problem. To enter Safe Mode, press and hold the power button, and when booting, press and hold the volume down button till you boot into Safe Mode. Confirm by tapping “OK” or “Yes” when prompted. In Safe Mode, see if your phone charges correctly. If it does, an app might be the issue.

5. Check for software updates

Keeping your Pixel’s software up to date can also fix charging issues. To check for any new updates, go to Settings, tap the gear icon, then select “System.” Next, tap “System Update” and check for any available updates. Install them if available.

6. Factory reset

If all else fails, a factory reset might be necessary. This will erase all data on your phone, so make sure to back up important files first. To reset, go to Settings, tap the gear icon, select “System,” then “Reset Options,” and choose “Erase all data (factory reset).” Follow the prompts to complete the reset.

If none of the above things work and your Pixel still won’t charge, it’s best to contact Google Support and get your phone checked.
