Google Pixel 9a rumour roundup: Everything we know so far

It has been almost six months since Google announced the Pixel 9 series, which means an affordable a-series device from the series may just be around the corner. As we head deeper into 2025, a number of rumours and leaks are now surfacing around what could be called the Google Pixel 9a – Google’s next affordable smartphone.

Here’s everything we know about the phone so far, and what you should expect if you’re waiting for the Pixel 9a.

Pixel 9a: Expected specifications

While Google has not released any confirmed specifications for the phone just yet, these are the expected specs the phone could sport. On the front, the Pixel 9a could come with a 6.2-inch FHD+ OLED display panel, with 120Hz refresh rate and up to 2,700nits brightness.

Like we have seen with previous phones in the a-series, the Pixel 9a is likely to be powered by the Google Tensor G4 chipset and could feature 8GB RAM with 128GB/256GB storage variants.

The camera setup is expected to include a 48MP main camera along with a 13MP ultrawide camera which will also double up as the macro sensor. A 13MP camera on the front is also expected.

The phone is also expected to feature a 5,000mAh battery and support for 23W charging and 7.5W wireless charging. Other expected specifications include an in-display fingerprint sensor, an IP68 water and dust resistance certification and stereo speakers.

The phone could run Android 15, and just like the other newer Pixel phones, will likely be updated for seven years post launch.

Pixel 9a: Expected pricing

As per a recent leak, the Google Pixel 9a could be priced at $499 for the 128GB model and $599 for the 256GB model in the US. In India, a direct conversion of these prices would be Rs 43,180 and Rs 51,830 respectively.

However, as we know, the pricing of Pixel phones in India is slightly higher, so expect the phone to be more expensive than this when it comes to India.

For comparison, the Pixel 8a is currently priced at Rs 37,999 and the Pixel 9 is priced at Rs 74,999. The Pixel 9a could sit well between these numbers.

More details on the Pixel 9a should start going live officially soon, as a launch is expected in about two months from now in March 2025, which is also when Nothing is expected to launch their new mid-range phone.
