Google has officially introduced the Pixel 9a in India, refining its mid-range lineup with a fresh design and upgraded internals. Unlike its predecessor, the Pixel 8a, this model features a flat rear camera setup, eliminating the traditional camera bump that has been a signature of past Pixel devices.
With improved hardware, an enhanced 120Hz AMOLED display, and Google’s AI-driven software, the Pixel 9a is set to compete against Apple’s iPhone 16e and other premium mid-range smartphones.
Google Pixel 9a price in India, availability
Google has priced the Pixel 9a at Rs 49,999 for the base 8GB + 128GB variant, making it a more affordable alternative to its fiercest rival, the iPhone 16e, which starts at Rs 59,900.
The 8GB + 256GB variant will set you back by Rs 56,999. It is also Rs 3,000 cheaper than the launch price of its predecessor, the Pixel 8a.
The smartphone will be available for purchase starting April 2025, through Google’s official store, and select online and offline retailers. Launch offers include a Rs 3,000 cashback and 24-month No-Cost EMI with select banks.
Google Pixel 9a key specifications
The Google Pixel 9a houses a 6.3-inch FHD+ pOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 2,700 nits peak brightness, ensuring smoother visuals and improved outdoor visibility.
Powering the device is Google’s Tensor G4 processor with a maximum clock speed of a respectable 3.1GHz, paired with 8GB of RAM. The phone runs on the latest Android 15 version and comes with seven years of OS and security updates, reinforcing Google’s commitment to long-term software support.
On the camera front, the Pixel 9a features a 48MP primary sensor alongside a 13MP ultrawide lens. A new macro mode allows for detailed close-up shots, leveraging the main camera sensor for improved clarity, according to Google. For selfies, there’s a 13MP camera up front.
Battery life has also improved, with the Pixel 9a housing a 5,100mAh battery, supporting 23W wired fast charging and 7.5W Qi wireless charging. Additionally, it now boasts an IP68 rating, making it water and dust-resistant up to 1.5m for 30 minutes.
Google Pixel 9a design and build
One of the most noticeable design changes in the Pixel 9a is its flat camera module, a departure from the traditional camera bump seen on previous Pixel devices. While this design tweak gives the phone a sleeker and more uniform look, it’s bound to spark mixed reactions among users.
Some may appreciate the flush camera housing as it eliminates the wobbling issue when placed on a flat surface, making it more stable for tasks like typing or gaming.
Others, however, might miss the distinct camera bar design that has been a hallmark of Pixel phones, as it not only added character but also provided better grip when holding the phone horizontally.
