The next Google Pixel is coming soon with even more AI goodness

Google Pixel 9 launch: Rounding up all the rumours and leaks

Google’s new Pixel smartphones are some of the most awaited Android phones every year. The all-Google phone has a lot to look forward to, including some unique design elements, in-house chipsets, and of course, all the cool AI features that Pixel smartphones are known for.

This year, we’re expecting Google to announce the Pixel 9 series, following up on the Pixel 8 with new hardware and more powerful software. Now, Google has teased its upcoming launch in India, which will take place on August 13. Here’s everything known about the Google Pixel 9 series so far.

When is the Google Pixel 9 launching?

As mentioned, Google announced an August 13 launch date for the Pixel 9 series phones, marking the date a little under two months from now. Interestingly, it is nestled halfway between the launch of the next Samsung Galaxy foldable phones and possibly, the new iPhone 16 series.

Not a lot of details have been announced officially ahead of the launch, but thanks to leaks, we know a fair bit of what to expect from the phones.

Google Pixel 9 series: What to expect?

As per a 91Mobile report, the Google Pixel 9 series is set to come with a glass sandwich design and sharper edges, like the older iPhone 14 Pro series phones. This could include thin, uniform-looking bezels on the front and Google’s signature horizontal camera bar on the back. It remains to be seen if the design of the camera bar is same or different from the Pixel 6, Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 series.

The new Pixel phones will also feature a new Tensor chipset, likely to be called the Tensor G4. However, it remains to be seen if the chip will be seen across the entire lineup. That’s because if Google chooses to take the Pixel 8-series approach, we may see both a Pixel 9 and a Pixel 9 Pro model.

AI is expected to be a big part of the new devices too, and that shouldn’t be a surprise given Google’s reliance on AI on promoting Pixel phones these past couple of years, as well as the strides the company has made in the artificial intelligence space with Gemini.

Lastly, Pixel 9 series phones are also likely to launch with Android 15 onboard, and just like the recent Pixel phones, may get seven years of software support. Of course, this will be supplemented by numerous ‘Pixel feature drop’ updates after launch, which will keep adding new features to the smartphones.

We should know more about the upcoming Pixel phones as we head closer to the August launch. Until then, keep an eye out for more Pixel updates on Unboxed by Croma.
