File sharing between Android and iOS devices is a familiar struggle for those who regularly deal with large files. Whether you’re a lone iPhone user in an Android-only friends group or are someone who dabbles with multiple clients at a time, you may have had to send images or videos on various occasions.
But it seems as though Google could be considering expanding its Android equivalent of AirDrop, Quick Share, for its iPhone, iMac or MacBook users. This means the update will not only facilitate simpler file sharing between the two smartphones but it could also accommodate other devices such as laptops and desktops.
Google may expand Quick Share: What's there to know?
A report by Android Authority highlighted a comment left by a Google engineer on a code essential to Quick Share. The publication points out how it mentions both iOS and macOS specifically, meaning an app for the two platforms could be in the works.

While the company has yet to comment if the claim is true, it may not be a stretch having Quick Share expand to Mac devices, considering how a Windows equivalent already exists for users. That said, integrating Quick Share into Apple’s tight-knit ecosystem may also pose to be a challenge. Several factors, including the App Store’s guidelines and Apple’s privacy policies, could potentially be some of the roadblocks along the company’s way.
Apart from this, it is also still uncertain if Google plans to pursue a standalone app for Quick Share on iOS or integrate it into an existing service, like Google Drive. However, having Quick Share could significantly reduce the hassles of transferring heavy files across platforms. It could also be instrumental in avoiding other cumbersome solutions, such as cloud-based shares, for files.
What is Quick Share and what can it do?
Quick Share, formerly known as Nearby Share, allows users with an Android device to share files such as photos, videos, and documents, seamlessly with phones, laptops and computers, seamlessly. The functionality works without internet connectivity; however, it uses Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to establish a direct connection with the device.
While having Quick Share for Apple devices may be a fitting solution for file-share woes, it is best to wait until the brand rolls out an official announcement. You can also revisit Unboxed by Croma for more updates and news from Google.
