In Google’s words, the new feature helps you find hidden gems and fun places along your route, making the journey fun and full of explorations.

this can be a sightseeing spot, a tourist attraction, or even a hotel to relax and stretch your legs (as Google says). It can be anything worth stopping your car for you to get out of it and explore the place for a short period.
So, if you are travelling from point A to B and want to stop by some place for relaxing or exploring a scene, just use Google Maps’ new feature to add stops to your route. Let’s see how you can use this feature efficiently on your next road trip.
How to use the new Explore along your route feature in Google Maps
Here’s how to add stops to your route in Google Maps.
Step 1: Open the Google Maps app on Android or iPhone.
Step 2: Add your destination as you’d always do by selecting the place.
Step 3: Now, tap on Directions.
Step 4: Tap on Add stops and pick stops from the Points of interest row. You can also manually search for any places by tapping the search bar. Similarly, you can select restaurants, coffee shops, gas stations, and grocery stores that fall along your route by tapping the following options.
Step 5: Once you have selected your stops, just add them by confirming.

You should now see all the stops you added to your route, making it easier for you to visit these places as you head to your final destination.
