Google Maps hasn’t changed a whole lot in the past couple of years, but Google has certainly added a bunch of subtle changes recently. Whether it is enhancing maps with new colours or bringing in new AI features, there are a lot of things visually new with the platform.
Keeping in mind that it remains to be the go-to navigation tool for both Android and iOS smartphone users alike, Google has, however, now announced a potential major redesign. The aim behind this move is to make Maps easy to understand and accessible to users from all walks of life.
Google Maps redesign: What's on the cards?
Google has introduced card and navigation updates for Maps, making them minimalistic and clean to look at along with simplifying their usage. Here are a few changes that you might see in the coming future:
1. Rounded edges
Google is planning to use rounded edges for the location card that pops up every time you search for a new place. This is to ensure an uncluttered, modern look.
2. Share or close buttons
Google Maps will also allow you to share or close your location card without accidentally swiping it away.

3. No longer full screen
You will no longer have to deal with location cards taking up the entire screen once you tap on it. The new, cleaner look will give you an insight into the map and will not expand the window.
Apart from these, several other new design changes are also being tested by Google. However, there’s still no saying when these will be rolled out. Google has slowly begun making these updates available for a subset of its users. That said, it is hard to tell if any of these will currently be available on updating the Maps app to its latest version.
