Only last week, Google announced the Gemini Pro update, image-generation capabilities for Bard. However, Dylan Roussel, an Android app developer, shared a document on X (formerly Twitter) revealing how Google could be reportedly looking at rebrand Bard to Gemini. Here’s everything you need to know about the news.
Google Bard to Gemini: What to expect?
According to Roussel, the company seems to be looking at adding various new features alongside the potential rebranding. The image in the post highlights the introduction of an ‘Advanced-tier’, which will be powered by Gemini Ultra — Google’s most advanced large language model to date. The model is expected to rival Open AI’s GPT-4; however, the changelog also indicates the possibility of a paywall for users to access Gemini Ultra.

Apart from this, Gemini Ultra will be equipped to handle several complex tasks. These include coding and logical reasoning, among others. It will also be able to take up nuanced instructions alongside creative collaboration.
Will there be a Google Gemini app for Android?
An interesting highlight featured in the post mentions the possibility of having a dedicated Google Gemini app for Android smartphones. The post further states that this app can help users by learning new things, including planning events and writing thank-you notes. It will also be seamlessly integrated into other Google devices, including Gmail, YouTube and Google Maps.
So far, it looks like only Android phones might have access to the app. iPhone users, however, may have to wait for an extension of the Google app to experience Gemini capabilities. It will be available across 150 countries and will only be optimised for the English language at the beginning. The post ends up mentioning how Gemini will further expand to Canada with this release.
