The Google Search app that allows you to search using text and voice inputs may soon receive an update for the latter that adds a new ability. The app may get a new conversational mode that continues to listen to you for additional searches.
This feature may enhance users’ search experience as they won’t have to constantly start and end a voice search in the Google app. Let’s see how the feature will work and make voice searches truly hands-free.
Google's conversational mode: What we know so far
As per an X user, the Google app will display a new conversational mode on some Android devices that continuously listen to your voice, after a new update. A demo showcased by the user shows that you may not get a pop-up of any sort to let you know about the feature for the first time.

In fact, the entire UI will remain unchanged. To start the conversational mode, all users will have to do is tap on the voice search button and search for something. Even after your first search is complete and you have the search results ready, the app will continue to listen to you.
This will allow you to search for additional information and the results will refresh as you speak. This is a hands-free way of searching on the web, and as per the demo, it works well. Such conversational mode may make voice searches more convenient for those with busy hands.
The Google app’s voice search worked just fine, but you had to always tap on the voice search button again and again and clear your first search input to input your next search, which isn’t the most seamless approach when researching an entirely new topic with multiple follow up questions. The new conversational mode may not require you to use your hands at all, except for the first time to begin your search, and towards the end to end the search.
It appears that this new conversational mode in the Google app has taken cues from Gemini Live. For the unversed, Gemini Live is Google’s conversational chatbot that also continues to listen to you. However, the Google app’s conversational mode may be better for general users who just want a convenient browsing experience.

As for the availability, Google hasn’t officially revealed when the feature will go live for all users, but some Android users are apparently getting it already, which means a limited, phased rollout may already be live. It appears that Google is quietly testing the feature before it’s ready to announce it to the public. In any case, most likely the Google Pixel devices may get this feature first in the Google app.
