Google, at I/O this year, announced Imagen 3, its image-generation AI model. The AI model has the ability to generate crisp, high-resolution, and lifelike images with just a few prompts. Google made this AI model available exclusively to Pixel 9 series via the Pixel Studio app.
However, its exclusivity appears to have ended, as Google has now updated Gemini with this exact model, allowing it to get improved image generation capabilities.
Gemini can generate lifelike images with Imagen 3
Google’s Gemini AI chatbot can now generate lifelike images with just a few prompts, thanks to Imagen 3, an AI model earlier accessible by Pixel 9 users via the Pixel Studio app.
Interestingly, Google isn’t charging Gemini users to use Imagen 3’s image generation prowess. This means you can use Gemini to generate photorealistic images on any device for free. Let’s see how you can generate lifelike images with Gemini.
Before we get started, make sure that the Gemini app on your Android is updated to the latest version. iPhone users can also use Imagen 3’s image generation prowess via Gemini through the Google app.

Step 1: Open the Gemini app or the Gemini tab on the Google app for iPhone users.
Step 2: Enter a prompt, you can say anything like “create an image of a panda eating chips” or “fishes cleaning the beach.” You can be more creative and add more complex details to your images, too. For instance, you can tell Gemini to add little details like the weather in the picture or the mood of the subject, etc.
Step 3: Once you are done, Hit send and wait for Gemini to create a lifelike image. While Gemini generates your image, you should see the mention of Imagen 3, which will assure you that the feature is now available to you.
Your image should now be generated. Unlike before, Gemini appears to have become faster at image generation, likely due to the addition of the Imagen 3 AI model.
While it’s great to see Google allowing users to experience AI models like Imagen 3 for free, it’s a disservice to the Pixel 9 series users, who chose to buy the latest phones for their exclusive AI features like this one, which isn’t exclusive anymore.
